Components of a Nature Habitat - Salt

The definitive website on plants & horticulture

Not everyone will be blessed with all sixteen Habitat Components on their property.

This does not mean that introducing as many as possible will not enhance wildlife. The key is to understand each of the components, what they are, how they assist in nature and what wildlife will be assisted by their availability.

Structural Habitat Component

Salt

It is an essential part of wildlife's diet. Some animals will seek it out while others get it through their diet. You can put out a salt block (check with your local regulations), or add some salt to your feeders. Do not overdue it. Salt will kill vegetation. A small sprinkle in a feeder everytime you fill it is fine.
